CELEBRATIONS SCHEDULED FOR NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

TUESDAY ~
- Folsom
Pro Rodeo ~
In addition to the seven-event rodeo and carnival
festivities, there will be a nightly fireworks
display. Gates open at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. The
rodeo is at Dan Russell Arena, Folsom City Park, Stafford and Natoma,

- Lighted
Boat Parade ~
Come to the Old Sacramento Waterfront on July 3 to view a lighted
boat parade by the Sacramento Yacht Club. The boats will
pass through Old Sacramento between 9 and 10 p.m. This event is free.
- North
Lake Tahoe ~
Kings Beach celebrates an early Fourth of July with a fireworks show
at 9 p.m. Tuesday. Reserved seating at the North Tahoe Community Conference
Center, North Lake Tahoe Boulevard, is $10 and includes refreshments
and DJ music. Heavenly Ski Resort's gondola will be available for
an airborne view of the pyrotechnics. Cost for the gondola ride is
$20 for adults, $18 for seniors, $12 for children ages 6-12 and free
for children 5 and younger. The M.S. Dixie II at Zephyr Cove and the
Tahoe Queen will have dinner cruises with viewing as well. The fireworks

- Orangevale
Fireworks display ~
The Orangevale Grange and the Orangevale Overalls Square Dance Club
will hold a fireworks display about 9 p.m.
July 3 behind the Grange. A fireworks booth at the Grange will be
open for business from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily through the Fourth
of July. Proceeds from the fireworks booth will support community
programs such as Scouting, 4-H clubs and Future Farmers of America.

~
The festivities kick off at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday with a Fourth of July
parade starting at First Street and ending with a street dance in
front of the Benicia City Park. An arts and crafts fair, along with
live entertainment and children's activities, start at noon at the
park. Fireworks display begins at 9 p.m.

Jackson's Lion's Club hosts its annual Independence Day fireworks
display starting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the football field
on Hoffman Street. Highlights include games, bingo, raffles and fireworks

Visit Railtown 1897 State Historic Park off Highway 120 in Jamestown
for a hearty barbecue and train excursion through the Sierra foothills.

Sacramento-Participating in the "Great American Pastime" is the
ideal way to celebrate Independence Day. The River Cats will play
against the Tucson Sidewinders at 6:35 p.m. at Raley Field. There
will be Fireworks after
the game, courtesy of Sutter Health.

Elks Fourth of July Parade ~
The 43rd annual parade, begins at 11 a.m. at Fair Oaks Boulevard and
Marconi Avenue. Festivities continue at 7 p.m. at Del Campo High School.

4925 Dewey Drive, with a performance by the Sacramento Valley Symphonic
Band Association and fireworks display at

Grove's Fourth of July Celebration ~
You'll find family fun with carnival rides, crafts, classic car displays,
military displays, bagpipers, performances by Sacramento Youth Jazz
Band, Ballet Folklorico de Oro and Funk Foundation from noon to 10
p.m. at Elk Grove Regional Park, Elk Grove-Florin Road. Parking

Day Service ~
The Trinity Cathedral Church, 2620 Capitol Ave. Sacramento,
will hold an Independence Day service at 9 a.m. There will be free
ice cream and pie following the service.

Independence Day extravaganza ~
begins at 7 p.m. with music by Innersoul. Fireworks
at 9:30 p.m. with a musical simulcast provided by KXOA
(The Arrow, 93.7 FM). Reserved seating is $6. Parking is $6. (916)

Mall Fireworks Spectacular ~
Pony rides, petting zoo, music by Banjo Ramblers and demonstrations
from "Mad Science" will take place at Birdcage Town Centre, 5975 Birdcage
Centre Lane, Citrus Heights, from 1 to 5 p.m. There will be
magic shows, a parade, strolling entertainment, games and circus fun
at 4 p.m. at the Sunrise Mall, Sunrise Boulevard and Greenback Lane.
The fifth annual Sunrise Mall fireworks display

Zoo's $1 day ~
In honor of the 4th of July, the Sacramento Zoo will offer
a special promotion -- $1 admission from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. But don't
expect to see fireworks at the zoo, animals are afraid of them!

Camp ~
Mark Twain Days gets the Calaveras County Fairgrounds jumping with
live music from Electra Road, Fabulous Off Brothers, Greg Barker and
Highway 61. There will be games and clowns for the kids, a food court

The Glorious Fourth of July Celebration features all-American contests,
including a pie-eating contest, watermelon-eating contest, nail-pounding
contest, greased-pole contest and egg relays. The event starts at

The annual downtown parade, themed "Celebrating Nevada County's 150
Years," kicks off the daylong festivities. Live music, arts and crafts
fair, and children's activities take place at 1 p.m. at the Nevada

starts at 11 a.m. at East Main and Auburn streets, fireworks

The sixth annual event offers pre-fireworks entertainment at 6 p.m.
with a vintage plane flyover, boat parade and water-skiing demonstration.

The Fourth of July celebration begins with a traditional hometown

The eighth annual Oooh Ahhh Festival features strolling entertainment,
train rides, crafts, face painting, "firequacker" derby, a kids zone
with games and laser tag, barbecue and fireworks

Lake, Turner Road, Lodi. $5 general, $3 children 6-12, free for children

The Great American Celebration offers a free event at Ellis Lake,
off Ninth Street, with whimsical cardboard boat races for the kids

The Fourth of July Family Blast includes entertainment by Hip Service,
bingo, gunny sack races, water-balloon toss and pony rides, topped

Celebrate America's stars and stripes with a holiday parade at noon
starting at Pony Express Trail and ending at the Community Center,
where there will be food, refreshments and activities sponsored by

"Celebration of Youth" is the theme for Reno's July Fourth parade,
which will start at the City Center Pavilion Plaza at 11 a.m. and
make its way down Virginia Street. San Rafael Park sets the stage
for live blues at 6 p.m., featuring Madison Avenue, Dan Palmer and
Larry Yates and the Blues Monsters. Fireworks
at 9:30 p.m. will be simulcast on FM radio stations 97.3 KWNZ, Sunny
106.9 and Oldies 103.7. San Rafael Park is at Washington

Climb aboard San Francisco Maritime Park's sailing vessel Balclutha
for dinner and family entertainment. You'll then have a bayside view
of the fireworks show. Activities

Francisco Chronicle's Fourth of July Fireworks

The fireworks display will be launched at
9:30 p.m. from a barge on San Francisco Bay. Street musicians
and artists perform throughout the day on stages at Pier 39, Ghirardelli
Square, The Cannery and The Anchorage beginning at 11 a.m. Free.

A full day of action begins at 7 a.m. at the Sparks Marina Park with
a volleyball tournament, carnival, sand-castle-building competition,
crafts and food booths, music, and model-milk-carton-boat regatta.
You'll find clowns, magicians, barbershop quartet, stilt-walkers and
other entertainment at 7 p.m. at the Sparks Victorian Square. Fireworks
will be shot at 9:30 p.m. from both towers of John Ascuaga's

Stockton's Waterfest begins at noon with a colorful parade starting
at Weber and El Dorado. Festivities move to Weber Point at 3 p.m.
with a balloon toss, pie-eating contest, sack races, carnival games,
karaoke, performances by the Stockton Symphony, Sweet Addiction and
Network, and ending with a fireworks display

Smokey Bear, Sierra Highlanders' Pipe Band and the Sierra West Bernese
Mountain Dog Club with about 20 dogs in various costumes will be among
the 60 participating entries in the annual parade. The parade steps

Six Flags Marine World will extend its hours to 10 p.m. so visitors
can enjoy the annual fireworks show
which explode over the park's lake at 9:15 p.m. Six Flags Marine World
